This will get you a date 💘

Here is what you're gonna do.

You're going use this ONE word in any sentence, and abracadabra you’ll be on a date🪄

Authentic

Jokes aside. The 2023 word of the year has been buzziiiiiiiiiing.

But when did “Authentic” become the new pick up line? It’s the buzz word on social media, dating apps and marketing banners. Like the new sexy cocktail that everyone is raving about.

Aperol Spritz, Margaritas and Negronis have been replaced.

Unfortunately this new cocktail has been watered down. The word is overused. It has lost its depth, its meaning and can be hard to sometimes even feel.

Yes, ‘Authentic’ has somehow become a hoax. In the pursuit of realness, fakeness came along.

Here is the actual issue with Authentic.

We’re unwilling to acknowledge all the ways that we’re inauthentic.

It's hard to admit our own incongruences. Yet every single one of us hides, conceals, manipulates and lies. It’s part of our human nature.

It can be a struggle seeing the complexity and multiplicity of ourselves. As n’betweeners we try to be “right,” and miss out on our “wrongness.”

We cannot be genuinely authentic until we own the parts that we wish to hide.

We all have an idealized version of ourselves in our heads of how “good” and “honest” we are. When we meet new people, we like to present and portray those part of ourselves.

Becoming who we really are begins by acknowledging all the ways we are inauthentic, and allowing ourselves to also be ok with this.

We're not going to be authentic all the time, it's contextual.

Most of us are most authentic when we’re alone with ourselves. So maybe let's start with a self-date?

XO
